HEALING THROUGH HUMOR

IRREVERENT: - ir-rev-er-ent - adj. - an inability to take serious things seriously.
Veterans operate differently than most others in the face of tragedy or adversity in that they are more likely to use humor and camaraderie as a coping mechanism.

SILKIES HIKE EVENT

SILKIES HIKES ARE FOR VETERANS, ACTIVE DUTY, NATIONAL GUARD AND RESERVISTS ONLY:

Looking for a day filled with humor, camaraderie, and military-grade banter? Look no further! Irreverent Warriors Silkies Hikes are where you’ll meet your next BFF (seriously, LOL). This is not your typical hike—it’s an urban adventure packed with fun games, social stops every hour or so, and a tribe of veterans who know how to blend humor with healing.
Whether you’re here to reconnect, laugh, or just wear short shorts (because Silkies, duh), this hike is for YOU. First-timer? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered with all the details below!

THIS IS NOT AN ATHLETIC EVENT
The hikes can be between 4-10 miles, are paced at 2-3 miles per hour. There are frequent stops for fellowship and food/beverages, and rucks, weight, and boots are optional.

ATTENDEE RULES - NO EXCEPTION

1. CODE OF CONDUCT:
   The Code of Conduct is in place to ensure that IW provides a safe and welcoming environment for ALL VETERANS. We recognize that we are not all fighting the same mental battles, dealing with the same disabilities, healing from the same traumas, or recovering from the same addictions.
   
   Any behavior that negatively impacts our veterans or undermines the support that our organization strives to provide to its members will not be tolerated. Our environment is one of inclusivity and support while maintaining fun and irreverence. 2. DOCUMENTED SERVICE ANIMALS ONLY:
   Your animal must have been trained to provide a service DIRECTLY RELATED to your disability.
   Service animals are working animals, NOT PETS, OR EMOTIONAL SUPPORT animals.
   According to ADA POLICY, you legally MUST be willing to answer the following questions:
   1. Is the dog a service animal required because of a physical/mental disability?
   2. What work/task has the dog been trained to perform?
   
   Although welcome, your service animals are NOT our responsibility, nor can we accept the liability of caring for your service animal. Irreverent Warriors hike support/vehicles legally cannot and will not watch/take care of your service animal.

3. NO OPEN CONTAINERS:
   Koozies are not acceptable cover. You might want to bring a cup, tumbler, or camelback for all your hydration needs!

4. OBEY LAWS:
   You are accountable to local, state, and federal law and many events have law enforcement escorts. Illegal activities include, but are not limited to, PUBLIC INEBRIATION, ILLICIT DRUG USE, DRINKING AND DRIVING, and PUBLIC INDECENCY! Do not be the problem; be the solution.

5. NO WEAPONS/WEAPON ACCESSORIES:
   This includes, but is not limited to, guns, flashbangs, grenades, knives, magazines, and ammo. Even if you have a license to carry it/own - do not bring it to the event.

NO MINORS, CIVILIAN HIKERS, PETS, OR STROLLERS

Key Reminders for the Day:

• Come as You Are: Everyone here is healing trauma in their own way, and there’s no judgment. Leaders and participants alike know the road to recovery isn’t easy, but it’s better together.

• Dress for Success: Wear your Silkies (if you have them) or comfortable shorts, feel free to wear a military pack or tactical vest, and don’t forget sunscreen and good walking shoes.

• Be Open: Share your story, crack a joke, or just soak in the camaraderie—this is your space to connect.

• Fun Stops: we’ll take a break for games, snacks, or just a quick breather. Expect to laugh—a lot.

• It’s Okay to Be Nervous: First hike jitters? Totally normal! Let the group know—it’s a great icebreaker and a way to start connecting right away.
